Fraternal Order Of Police Endorse Loebs for Prosecutor | April 18, 2016

Twin Falls, April 18, 2016–The Twin Falls Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #22 has endorsed Grant Loebs for Twin Falls County Prosecutor for the upcoming 2016 election.  “You clearly show and uphold all the qualities necessary to be an effective Prosecuting Attorney,” the endorsement said, “the Twin Falls FOP Lodge #22 unanimously voted and grants you our endorsement for the upcoming 2016 election for Twin Falls County Prosecutor.”

“I am very pleased to receive this unanimous endorsement from this important police organization.  I look forward to continuing my partnership with law enforcement to keep our community safe.”

Should more or fewer criminals be sentenced to jail or prison time?

Sentencing is the Judge’s prerogative; not the prosecutor’s.  Nevertheless, prosecutors play a significant role and I take this very seriously.  In each case we recommend a just sentence, based on the crime, the victim’s injuries, and the defendant’s history and character.  While frequently we recommend sentences harsher than judges impose, we’re not in a position to question how judges weigh these factors. But, the nationwide move to release convicts from prisons is a very dangerous trend I have been fighting against in Idaho’s legislature and as a member of the Idaho Criminal Justice Commission.

How would you describe the role of prosecutor in your county?

The Prosecutor is the county’s chief law enforcement officer and its civil attorney.  It is fundamentally important that Twin Falls County be served in these important capacities by people of commitment, experience and integrity.  I am proud to have assembled and maintained the state’s most experienced, capable group of professional prosecutors with the greatest experience per attorney of any major Idaho prosecutor’s office.

Critique the state of the justice system in your county?

Twin Falls County and its justice system are vibrant and ever-changing.  My tenure has seen huge increases in population, legal complexity, and challenges to social order and safety of our citizens.  My office has met each of these challenges with ingenuity and professionalism. I have built and maintained innovative, positive partnerships with uniformed law enforcement agencies in the Magic Valley, the courts and state and federal agencies that are vital to the safety and security of the citizens of Twin Falls County.
