Vote Loebs for Twin Falls County Prosecutor, Twin Falls Times-News | Our View

May 4, 2016 | Twin Falls County Prosecutor Grant Loebs is a man of integrity and widely respected by the public and legal community. … Add our endorsement to those Loebs has earned from Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, former Twin Falls Police Chief Lee DeVore and the Twin Falls Fraternal Order of Police, among many others.

Loebs has won five elections since he was appointed in 1997, and he’s expertly adapted to significant shifts in the regional criminal justice system. He helped form the Magic Vally’s first drug court and has been instrumental in shaping programs to divert drug users out of prison and into treatment.

That’s not to say his office hasn’t been tough on crime. It prosecutes about 700 felonies a year, and Loebs has personally prosecuted more than 40 homicide cases in his tenure.  …

Loebs deserves another term.

Grant is respected among his colleagues and is willing to take difficult special prosecution cases for them when needed - Lawrence Wasden, Idaho Attorney General

May 11, 2016 – I support Grant Loebs in his re-election bid as Twin Falls County prosecuting attorney. Mr. Loebs’ steady prosecutorial hand is felt not only in Twin Falls County, but throughout the state. Many times I have called on him for input into matters affecting the criminal justice system throughout Idaho.

Grant is respected among his colleagues and is willing to take difficult special prosecution cases for them when needed. He successfully represented the people of Twin Falls County, and the power of their vote, when he challenged the redistricting plan adopted by the state. He won — or rather, you won — and I lost. Yet, I fully understood the legal position he took and why it was incumbent upon him to pursue that case. All of Idaho was served by his action.

My office has both stood next to Mr. Loebs in court, and opposed him in court, and, at all times he has been the consummate professional.

Please cast your vote for Grant Loebs in the Republican primary election.

I am a survivor of domestic violence. Grant Loebs with his very caring staff helped me through the worst time of my life. I have been able to be productive and successful in life and am now retired from a job I loved. - Thelma Maxwell, Orofino

May 8, 2016 | My name is Thelma Maxwell, a survivor of domestic violence from 1997. Grant Loebs was prosecuting attorney at that time, who with his very caring staff helped me through the worst time of my life. I have been able to be productive and successful in life and am now retired from a job I loved.

This perpetrator never quite gave up trying to contact me even with all the legal blocks in place. I called Grant Loebs in a panic many times through the 19 years for his help and guidance. He was always there with help and advice. Grant Loebs has done a great job for all of Twin Falls for the past 19 years I have known him.

From what I have seen and heard he gets the job done as economically as possible and in the shortest time. He has the knowledge and experience to do the best job for Twin Falls. I hope he is reelected.

During the past 19 years of litigation with Grant Loebs' office, my clients have been treated fairly and professionally by the prosecution. And, really, that is all a defense attorney can ask for, to get their clients a fair shake. - Greg J. Fuller, Criminal Defense Attorney, Twin Falls

May 1, 2016  | As a criminal defense attorney in southern Idaho over the last 44 years, I have had the opportunity to face many different prosecuting attorneys. Some were good. Some were bad. Most were in between. Until now, I have never been inclined to endorse any one of them politically. However, when you think about it, no one is better qualified to evaluate a prosecutor than a defense attorney who has been fighting him in court for the past 19 years.

And, yes, I say “fighting,” for that is essentially what we do. The system of justice that we operate under involves two adversaries virtually “fighting it out” in court until the judge or jury determines the truth of the matter. Sometimes it is an exhaustive and yes, often emotional process that can result in intense and even unflattering feelings and comments between prosecutor and defense attorney. However, that is in the courtroom. Outside the courtroom, a more civil approach is not only more productive but, in my opinion, necessary. This is where Grant Loebs excels. He, more than most the prosecutors I have worked with, understands his role of seeking justice, not just convictions.

During the past 19 years of litigation with Grant Loebs’ office, my clients have been treated fairly and professionally by the prosecution. And, really, that is all a defense attorney can ask for, to get their clients a “fair shake.” The fact is, Grant Loebs has built a very efficient, smooth-running, professional law office, with an exceptional legal staff, most of whom have been with him the entire 19 years. What other law firm in the State of Idaho can claim that? So, to use the vernacular: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Vote for Grant Loebs.

I had the honor of working with Grant for 12 years. Grant is dedicated to keeping our community a safe and secure place for Idaho’s families and children. - Sharon Block, Former Rep., Dist. 24, Kimberly

May 15, 2016  | Grant Loebs, our Twin Falls County prosecuting attorney, has served Twin Falls County well for many years in this important position. As a former legislator of the Idaho House of Representatives and chairman of the House Health and Welfare Committee, I had the honor of working with Grant for 12 years. Grant is dedicated to keeping our community a safe and secure place for Idaho’s families and children. He has highly effective leadership qualities and exemplifies ethics and integrity. He is also very caring and compassionate. His exceptional staff reflects his high values. He has recommended numerous legislative improvements on issues of child protection, foster children, grandparents caring for grandchildren, children at risk, juvenile justice, drug and alcohol addictions and prevention, victim rights, and protection of young women and children from sexual predators.

He works in cooperation with local and state police, judges, prisons and local citizens to find solutions. Grant has overseen the writing of numerous legislative bills and is always well informed about pending judicial legislation. He knows how the details will affect the citizens of Twin Falls County. I conferred with him often on these subjects and found his insight to be significantly helpful. He always took time to make an immediate and insightful response. His efficiency and intellect were evident.

Grant Loebs is well known around the state. He is highly respected and influential with legislators, fellow prosecutors, judicial professionals and private citizens. You can rest assured that Grant Loebs is exceedingly capable of keeping our county and state safe.

Twin Falls County and the State of Idaho can rely on Prosecutor Grant Loebs. With Grant Loebs at the helm in the prosecutor’s office, our minds can be at ease. Please join me in voting for Grant Loebs for Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney.

I worked closely with Grant when I was the chief of police for the city of Twin Falls. He was extremely competent and professional. - Lee DeVore, Former Twin Falls City Police Chief

May 13, 2016 | I am writing in support of Twin Falls Prosecutor Grant Loebs who I have known for many years. I worked closely with Grant when I was the chief of police for the city of Twin Falls. He was extremely competent and professional. Grant is a graduate of ldaho State University and received his jurist doctorate with honors from George Washington University. Before coming back to Idaho Grant worked in the Pentagon under the Reagan administration and clerked in a District of Columbia law firm.

Grant Loebs has a passion for prosecuting criminals and has successfully led the prosecution of 41 murderers here in Twin Falls County. Right now he is in the middle of four more murder cases.

Prosecutor Loebs is recognized by his peers as a leader in the field and has twice served as the president of the Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association. He has been active as a member of the Board of Directors since 2000.

Grant has said that he is seeking re-election so that he can provide sound, experienced leadership to the Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he has served as the prosecuting attorney and chief law enforcement officer in the county since 1998.

The County of Twin Falls is fortunate to have a person with his outstanding background, education and experience. He has the most experienced, capable group of prosecutors in the state and the highest average of longevity and experience per attorney of any major prosecutor in Idaho.

Join me in voting to re-elect Grant Loebs as Twin Falls County’s prosecuting attorney so we can continue to be a leader in the state.

During my tenure as a police officer and later as the Twin Falls chief of police, I had the opportunity to work closely with Grant on numerous occasions. I was always impressed with his professional and meticulous approach to handing criminal cases. - Jim Munn, Former Twin Falls City Police Chief, Twin Falls

Grant Loebs brings excellent credentials to this position, and has used his skills and knowledge to prosecute and convict 40 plus murder defendants. - Arthur H. Rebollozo, Administrative Sergeant, Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office

Grant Loebs exemplifies the ideals of a public servant. He is charitable and kind, always willing to give advice to those in need. - Sen. Lee Heider, Dist. 24, Twin Falls

May 15, 2016  | We are indeed fortunate to have such a great prosecuting attorney here in Twin Falls. Grant Loebs exemplifies the ideals of a public servant. He is charitable and kind, always willing to give advice to those in need. As prosecutor, he is even-handed, thorough, honest and fair. He treats everyone as an equal. Those who break the laws are prosecuted appropriately, and pay for their crimes. That to me is the deterrent to crime and the just execution of the laws of our great state. Those who after investigation are found to be innocent are not prosecuted. I have seen Grant reach out to those whom he finds innocent, and afford them every opportunity to return to become good, law-abiding citizens.

I am voting to keep Grant Loebs as our prosecuting attorney, so that we can continue to live in a county where the laws are upheld and the safety of the citizens is paramount. Please join me and vote for Grant Loebs in the upcoming primary election, and let’s keep Twin Falls the greatest and safest place in Idaho to live and raise our families.

I have experience with Grant's aggressive prosecution and sensitivity toward victims and their families because of a case involving a victim from my county. - Barry McHugh, Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney, Coeur D'Alene

May 8, 2016  | I encourage you to affirm by vote the hard work of prosecuting attorney Grant Loebs. I am the Kootenai County prosecuting attorney and have come to know Grant through our work as prosecutors, and as board members of the Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association.

I have experience with Grant’s aggressive prosecution and sensitivity toward victims and their families because of a case involving a victim from my county. I also know from prosecuting attorneys in your neighboring counties that Grant is a respected litigator. He is also an effective manager, which is reflected by his ability to retain talented attorneys on staff. Grant led the effort to challenge the Idaho redistricting plan that would have created an injustice to Twin Falls County voters. Grant took the lead in writing the brief, and argued the case before the Idaho Supreme Court. His work caused the Supreme Court to set aside the old plan, resulting in the new and better plan that exists today.

I have seen Grant’s leadership through his work in Supreme Court committees and as an IPAA Board member. Grant has tremendous experience that assists the courts and the Legislature in keeping Idaho on track to protect its citizens. He is acknowledged statewide for his expertise and advocacy on behalf of Twin Falls County and the state of Idaho. Grant’s passion for the responsibility of being your prosecuting attorney sets him apart. He is just as enthusiastic about his work today as when we met in 2009. He is truly committed to serving your best interests and doing everything he can to keep Twin Falls County citizens safe.

Show Grant you appreciate his work and commitment by giving him your vote.

I served as the elected Ada County prosecutor for 32 years. Twin Falls County is very fortunate to have a professional like Grant Loebs as their prosecuting attorney. - Greg H. Bower, Former Ada County Prosecutor

May 8, 2016  | I served as the elected Ada County prosecutor for 32 years. During the last 20 years I had frequent opportunity to interact with Grant Loebs, the Twin Falls County prosecuting attorney. We served together as directors of the National District Attorney’s Association and the Idaho Prosecuting Attorney’s Association. During the past decade Ada County and Twin Falls County exchanged many conflict cases and I had an opportunity to observe Grant and his staff in action on several occasions. I have handled several Twin Falls County police shootings and spent much time in the Twin Falls County Courthouse.

Twin Falls County is very fortunate to have a professional like Grant Loebs as their prosecuting attorney. He has built a solid, stable organization that protects his community and serves the cause of justice every day. His personal commitment is 24/7 and every day of the year. I have spent enough time with him to know that he is always on the job. He is passionate about our justice system and signs his work with excellence.

Lawyers sometimes use the prosecutor’s office as a steppingstone to judicial office or other elected positions. Grant Loebs has never wanted to be anything but your prosecuting attorney. You are fortunate indeed to have a committed, experienced professional as your prosecutor.

If you live anywhere, other than the far western part of Twin Falls County, you owe Grant “thanks.” - Sen. Jim Patrick, Dist. 25, Filer

May 15, 2016  | I know Grant Loebs to be a fine man of outstanding character. He has been diligent in his prosecution of offenders in Twin Falls County. I have known Grant for many years. I can tell you, if he does not like my position on legislation, he tells me directly, and I tell him if I don’t like his stand on an issue and I tell him directly, but we remain friends. We respect each other.

Many of us remember the redistricting of the legislative districts as a result of the 2010 census and how the commission tried to split Twin Falls County in an unreasonable way. The city would have had the same district as is now, but everything west of Highway 93 would have gone to Owyhee and Elmore County leaving the population center in Mountain Home. The eastern part of the county would have gone to Cassia County with the population center in Burley. This split was not necessary and unconstitutional and would have left Twin Falls County essentially with no representation. Grant sued and won in the Supreme Court. After many hours with maps and discussions a fairer representation was an improvement for Twin Falls County voters. If you live anywhere, other than the far western part of Twin Falls County, you owe Grant “thanks.” The final plan could have been much better, but would have required another lawsuit and more time. This area population grew at the average of the state and should not been carved up just because the surrounding counties lost population.

Because of Grant Loebs we have good representation in the Legislature from the Magic Valley.

As the former sheriff of Twin Falls County I am voting for our only choice, Grant Loebs, for prosecutor. - Wayne Tousley, Former Twin Falls County Sheriff

May 1, 2016  | As the former sheriff of Twin Falls County I am voting for our only choice, Grant Loebs, for prosecutor. The reasons are many and obvious; I will point out a few. Mr. Loebs is a dedicated servant to the people who delivers his legal knowledge in a respectful way to and for the citizens of Twin Falls County while at the same time balancing justice to all he serves, measuring out tough justice to those who have broken the law while at the same time keeping in mind the rights of families and victims that the lawless prey upon.

Mr. Loebs is a man of character and integrity, who is well educated and with his many years of experience as prosecutor in the courtroom ranks as one of the top prosecutors in our great state of Idaho. He has the knowledge and experience to lead and is well respected by judges and both sides of the legal scale as well as others inside and outside of the legal profession. He also manages a cost-effective office, and I have confidence that he will continue to do so in the future, serving Twin Falls County citizens well. Please join me and vote Grant Loebs prosecutor.

Prosecutor Loebs serves his community with integrity and sound judgment. - Jan M. Bennetts, Ada County Prosecuting Attorney, Boise

April 25, 2016  | As the Ada County prosecuting attorney, I know how critically important it is for each community to have a prosecuting attorney with the experience and dedication to handle the challenging issues prosecutors face on a daily basis. Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney Grant Loebs has been serving his community as the elected prosecuting attorney since 1997. He not only has the experience necessary to handle challenging criminal matters, but he provides sound civil legal advice to Twin Falls County elected officials and department heads.

Prosecutor Loebs serves his community with integrity and sound judgment. Grant is a leader for prosecutors in ldaho and at the national level. I currently serve on the Board of the ldaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association with Prosecutor Loebs, who has served on the IPAA Board since 2000. He has also been serving as Idaho’s Representative on the National District Attorneys Association Board since 2000. Additionally, Grant serves on the ldaho Criminal Justice Commission, having been appointed by the governor to serve on this commission when it was formed in 2005. His leadership and service on these boards and on the ICJC ensure that Idaho’s prosecutors have a voice on important criminal justice issues that impact our communities.

Without a doubt, Prosecutor Loebs has provided invaluable leadership in these roles. It is without hesitation that I support Prosecutor Loebs to serve as the Twin Falls County prosecuting attorney for the next four years. He will continue to serve with integrity and with the experience necessary to fulfill such a critically important role.

I have been impressed by his commitment to doing things right. - Sen. Jim Rice, Dist. 10, Caldwell

May 13, 2016  | As an attorney I evaluate other attorneys and have my own personal lists of those attorneys that I consider to be the most knowledgeable, ethical and who understand that results must be practical as well as legal. As an Idaho state senator, I have a short list of those attorneys that I call for input on legislation. Grant Loebs is on that short list. I have been impressed by his commitment to doing things right.

He is a staunch defender of the rights of victims, while also being committed to staying within the bounds of the Constitution as a prosecutor. I have called Grant on issues ranging from relief for victims of human trafficking, to legislation on investigations of county elected officials as well as reform of our corrections system. He has provided sound counsel, asked questions that helped focus solutions to avoid creating unintended problems and helped with wording of legislation. I really appreciate Grant Loebs’ willingness to be candid and to disagree while still giving me his advice and counsel.

Twin Falls County is better for the dedication, character and wisdom Grant brings to the office of prosecuting attorney. I encourage you to continue to support him.

He brings excellent credentials to this position and a history of sound prosecutorial decisions. Additionally, Grant has been fiscally responsible and dependable. - Dan A. Lewin, Former Twin Falls Police Sergeant, Kimberly

April 18, 2016  | Please accept this letter as my support for Grant Loebs, Twin Falls County prosecuting attorney. I have had the honor and privilege of knowing and working with Grant over the past 23 years. Loebs has worked effectively in the prosecuting attorney’s office since 1993, serving as our prosecutor since 1997. He brings excellent credentials to this position and a history of sound prosecutorial decisions. Additionally, Grant has been fiscally responsible and dependable in the management of his office.

Grant Loebs is honest, reliable, and willing to work the long hours needed for the position. I believe Grant Loebs is the person best qualified to continue as prosecuting attorney for Twin Falls County. Grant’s honest, pragmatic, and experienced insight into our community’s problems and needs, and his willingness to examine the issues and listen closely to the public’s questions and concerns, sets him far apart from the other candidate.

For many years, Mr. Loebs has represented the 5th District Prosecuting Attorneys as a board member of the ldaho Prosecuting Attorney Association. As a diligent and dedicated board member of IPAA, he has personally affected many great changes for Twin Falls prosecution, the 5th District and statewide. His expertise is valued and his influence and experience is irreplaceable.

One of his greatest attributes is the ability to lead, train and support a group of talented and dedicated prosecutors and staff who effectively deal with difficult cases, heavy caseloads and who expertly navigate the complex issues that arise in and out of the courtroom. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Loebs is an enjoyable person who relates well with employees, attorneys, government officials, law enforcement and the community that he serves.

Mr. Loebs is an excellent prosecuting attorney, who has spent most of his life seeing justice served for the people of Twin Falls County. His experience, leadership and dedication to Twin Falls County coupled with his work ethic make him an excellent prosecuting attorney. I fully support Mr. Grant Loebs for re-election.

Grant exemplifies integrity. He is a prosecutor who stands for what is right. - Bryan Taylor, Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney

May 8, 2016  | Integrity, courage and dedication are qualities that a person holding the Office of Prosecuting Attorney should have. Grant Loebs possesses all of those traits and is committed to serving his community.

Grant exemplifies integrity. He is a prosecutor who stands for what is right. Grant is passionate about his duties, especially when it comes to protecting the Constitution and the laws of the State of Idaho. He will not be compromised from doing what is right even when the decisions are hard. His leadership exemplifies how prosecutors should go about their duties and obligations to use all fair, honorable, reasonable, and lawful means to prosecute offenders that have violated the law.

Grant is courageous in his prosecutorial efforts. He and his amazing team tackle justice day and day out to make the community safer. Even though accolades will not come their way, knowing that Twin Falls is safer and offenders are held accountable is all they strive for. He assures that justice is achieved.

Grant is also one of the most dedicated prosecutors in the State of Idaho. I have been privileged to call Grant a colleague and work alongside him. His passion and zeal is contagious. Grant has been a foundation and model for prosecutors in Idaho. Under Grant’s guidance and direction, Twin Falls County has become a statewide leader and innovator in areas such as domestic violence, child abuse and child protection. Protecting our children has always been at the forefront of Grant’s vision. I feel as though Twin Falls County is fortunate to have such an outstanding prosecutor.

He is well versed indeed in the many aspects of Twin Falls County crime and in bringing appropriate changes to keep our community safe and secure. - Stephen Hartgen, Former Rep., Dist. 24, Twin Falls

May 8, 2016  | I am writing in support of Twin Falls County Prosecutor Grant Loebs, who is running for reelection this spring in the Republican primary. He has my unqualified support and deserves another term.

Mr. Loebs has been county prosecutor for nearly two decades; prior to that, he was an assistant prosecutor in the same office, so he is well versed indeed in the many aspects of Twin Falls County crime and in bringing appropriate charges to keep our community safe and secure. There have been many changes in the criminal law in recent years, and Mr. Loebs has kept up with them all. He is the “go to” source for many of us legislators when we need to know how a proposed legal change will impact our citizenry.

Mr. Loebs has been diligent in other aspects of his work, advising the county as to legal pitfalls and implications in matters involving civil procedures and in how the legal system operates in Idaho. He is always willing to share his knowledge with others without hesitation.

I have known Mr. Loebs for more than two decades and he has my full support for another term. We are lucky indeed to have him as our county prosecutor.

Grant Loebs has always been available to provide insight and counsel on many matters and especially on finer points of legislation. - Rep. Clark Kauffman, Dist. 25, Filer

May 5, 2016  | Grant Loebs has always been available to provide insight and counsel on many matters and especially on finer points of legislation when I have had questions or concerns. He supplies information on issues that concern Idaho and Twin Falls County. Grant is professional, honest and runs an efficient office.

For more than 20 years, Grant has repeatedly demonstrated that he is a skilled trial lawyer, securing convictions in numerous felony cases. - Jim J. Thomas, Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney, Hailey

May 14, 2016  | I write this letter to support the re-election of Grant Loebs as Twin Falls County prosecuting attorney. I have known Grant since 1996 and have worked closely with him since I was elected Blaine County prosecuting attorney in 2000. For more than 20 years, Grant has repeatedly demonstrated that he is a skilled trial lawyer, securing convictions in numerous felony cases. He has trained, mentored, and managed a team of highly effective prosecutors and has willingly collaborated and shared resources with our office to effectively manage our offices’ caseloads.

Through leadership positions within the Idaho Prosecuting Attorney’s Association and the National District Attorney’s Association, Grant has been a constant defender of victim rights, and he works closely with the Idaho Legislature to assist it in carefully crafting legislation that balances law enforcement needs against the rights of the accused. I believe that the citizens of Twin Falls County are fortunate to have Grant as their advocate and I urge you to support him in the primary and general elections.

Grant Loebs is the best choice for Twin Falls County prosecutor. He has been at his job for 18 years. - Gene Turley, Twin Falls County Coroner

May 5, 2016  | Grant Loebs is the best choice for Twin Falls County prosecutor. He has been at his job for 18 years. He is very well versed in the law. He knows the issues and performs to the best of his ability in a sometimes very difficult job. Grant has always kept the best interest of Twin Falls County in mind when making hard decisions. Grant is a valuable team player with the other elected officials. He has always treated his fellow elected officials and the public with dignity and respect.

I’ve known Grant Loebs for 21 years and he has always treated me good. As the county coroner and on a personal level, I have approached Grant for advice and have never come away disappointed. He has always listened to me and consulted with me and directed me in the right direction. We need to retain Grant as our county prosecutor, as we cannot afford to elect someone that would have to be retrained and educated in the prosecutor’s office.

I value my friendship and professional relationship with Grant. Vote with me for Grant Loebs, Twin Falls County Prosecutor.

Grant Loebs and I agree that we must not take a soft approach to crime. Criminal wrongdoing must be punished and criminals held accountable. Grant Loebs believes in the rule of law and the law must reflect a bias toward public safety. - Denton Darrington, Former Sen., Dist. 27, Declo

May 8, 2016  | As election time approaches I heartily endorse the reelection of Prosecutor Grant Loebs. As one of the leading prosecutors in the state and a member of the Board of Directors of the Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association I had many dealings with Grant Loebs during the years I was chairman of the Idaho Senate Judiciary and Rules Committee. In that committee we dealt mostly with issues of public safety involving police agencies, prosecutors, the judiciary, adult and juvenile corrections and many other groups.

Grant Loebs helped me many times to work out legislation involving public safety issues. His concern was always keeping the community safe through good legislation and good practices in the office of prosecutor. His judgment was always correct with regard to which legislative proposals would work and which would be counterproductive. Many times his insight was beneficial to me. We both believe that sanctions for criminal activity should include incarceration, treatment programs where appropriate and effective supervision of parolees and probationers.

Grant Loebs and I agree that we must not take a soft approach to crime. Criminal wrongdoing must be punished and criminals held accountable. Grant Loebs believes in the rule of law and the law must reflect a bias toward public safety. Citizens have a right to be safe in their person and their property. That is the major reason along with a proven track record why Grant Loebs should be reelected Twin Falls County prosecutor. His work in Twin Falls County has benefitted the entire state in many ways.

Grant's reputation among law enforcement, judges and other lawyers is bullet-proof. - John Hansen, Former Twin Falls Public Defender, Olympia, Washington

April 15, 2016  | It’s been 11 years since my family moved from Twin but we still follow the local news. It was interesting, even surprising, to learn that Grant Loebs has a primary challenger this year. The race can’t be about legal qualifications: Grant is one of the smartest, most experienced prosecutors in the state of Idaho. It’s not about conservative credentials: Grant is a true Reagan Republican who worked for Steve Symms in D.C., and is a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars. It’s not about character: Grant’s reputation among law enforcement, judges and other lawyers is bullet-proof.

I spent six-plus years as public defender in Twin Falls County working opposite Mr. Loebs. I knew that Grant always could be counted on to do the right thing–whether I liked it or not! I didn’t always agree with him. In fact, several of my former clients are still serving long prison sentences because of Grant’s tough stance. Grant took on the hard cases and took a hard line. Still, his approach always has been balanced and fair. Grant would look at each case, and weigh the law and evidence independently each time. Grant always has followed the Constitution and the law, without regard for political pressure or popularity.

This is what seems to have irritated some political agitators. When Mr. Loebs was asked for legal advice on a recent local controversy, he issued a wise opinion, which was carefully researched and reasoned to follow the Constitution and save the taxpayers some future legal bills. A handful of failed petition passers disagree with Grant’s legal thinking so much that now they want to hire a different lawyer? Twin Falls County primary voters should refuse to sign on with the critics. There’s simply no good reason to replace Grant Loebs as Twin Falls County prosecutor.
